Hello everyone! Welcome to Elora's ICT BLOG💗
This blog will be a record of my own explorations and discoveries, I'm gonna introduce different technologies applied in English education every week. It’s a new challenge for me as a new English teacher, but I can't wait to share my learning journey with you!😆 Each of you is very welcome to leave your comments💝
This week our topic is motivation. People always say that interest is the best teacher for studying, are you also looking for a good way to motivate students to study English based on their interests? Lyrics Training might be a good choice for you as long as you are into music!🎵
How to use Lyrics Training?
Lyrics Training is a website that allows users to study languages through music and lyrics. It’s very easy to use, all you need to do is select one of your favorite songs, watch the music video while listening to the song and fill in the blanks the words are missing. If you miss the word or you spell it wrongly, the song will come to a stop, you will need to listen again and rewind that section of the lyrics. There are different modes of difficulty when you are playing this game, including Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Expert. The more difficult mode you choose, the more blanks you need to fill in. Here is a wonderful tutorial video about how to use Lyrics Training, click and check if you are interested!👀
My favorite thing about Lyrics Training is that it’s really user-friendly😊You don’t need to register or download anything, Lyrics Training is accessible from the browser which is really easy to use. It’s not necessary to log in to play the game even tho it’s free to create an account. You can choose a specific song if you have one in mind, or, you can explore different music genres and different targeted languages on the website.
However...?
However, when thinking about limitations the question always comes to my mind: Is it really the best way to study English by lyrics? Because we know that sometimes lyrics are not correct English, sometimes the lyrics created by the singer to rhyme are not grammatically correct and if you get used to them you may get the wrong impression of the expressions and usage. At the same time, lyrics are largely impractical and not the language we use in our daily lives, so is it really helpful to study them to improve our language?😕
But anyway, music is still a great way to get students motivated to learn English😆 and it's even better to spend a little time every day listening to your favorite English songs and learning some vocabulary and expressions along the way! Why not give it a go?
That’s all for this week, I will keep sharing something else next week💞

Hi, Elora. I also wrote a blog about lyricstraining. I think it's really useful for language learning because music now is an indispensable part of our life. But I agree with you that some lyrics may have grammar mistakes which is not suitable for language learning. In addtion, if you can use bullet points to show readers the contents, so much the better.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I totally agree that some lyrics may cause some misunderstandings to students. Lyrics are not formal English and they may even have some grammar mistakes to make them sound better. To be honest, I am curious about how to apply Lyricstraining in the English lesson. Could you give more details about that? You talked more about self-training I think. And I also want to know how to engage the students who are not interested in lyrics.
