This week our topic is blended learning. Blended learning is a powerful educational approach that combines the flexibility of online learning and the social interaction and personalization of traditional classroom instruction. With the popularity of online teaching, the concept of the flipped classroom is gradually being widely applied to English teaching. In the flipped classroom, teachers first provide students with digital resources like videos that cover the material they will be discussing in class, letting students learn the content outside of class through self-directed study, and then apply that knowledge through activities and discussion in class. TED-Ed is a fantastic tool to help the teacher create flipped class!

How to use TED-Ed?

I’m sure you have heard of TED Talks, the worldwide famous short, powerful talks that cover a wide range of topics from science to culture to business and more. Is there any good way to apply these fabulous videos to English classes? 💭

YES! TED-Ed is here for you🙌 It is an online educational platform that allows users to create their lessons based on the TED Talks resources. All you need to do is choose a video that is relevant to your class, then you can freely use multiple tools from the website, like cutting the video into smaller clips, adding questions, quizzes, comments or other different activities. There are so many different features that you can explore on TED-Ed, here is a wonderful tutorial video about how to use it to create a flipped classroom, click and check it 👀I’m sure it will be helpful!

Once you have created your lesson, you can share it with your students via the platform. It’s very easy for students to access the lesson from anywhere, they don’t even need to be logged in to answer these questions. And the teacher can also track students’ engagement and progress and give them feedback.😊

However, there are still some limitations...

TED talk videos are famous for being short, interesting and targeted for all audiences. The breadth and depth of the video content are somewhat limited, and although it can be used as a means of engaging students' interest, it is not sufficient in terms of expertise. In addition, self-learning through videos relies heavily on student autonomy, and although the TED-Ed platform offers a variety of features, the teacher is limited in the amount of student-teacher interaction that can be achieved through the videos, and this method of learning may not be suitable for all students😞

Despite these limitations, TED-Ed is still a valuable platform for designing flipped classrooms, It is definitely worth a try for all teachers😆

That’s all for today, see you next week💖
